Course Description
An Impulse Response is an encoded audio file. When you run a guitar signal through it, it gives you the emulated sound of a real cabinet. In other words, it replaces the need for a physical cab entirely.
This is a big deal for anyone who does not want to haul a 100-pound 4×12 to every gig or session. Instead of spending over a thousand dollars on a cabinet and loading it into a vehicle, you load a 40 KB file into an IR loader and you are done.
Playing through a real cab still has its place. But the gap in sound between an actual cabinet and a well-captured IR is small enough that most engineers and guitarists consider it negligible. The convenience wins.
Since the process of creating an IR is technically the same as creating a convolution reverb, this course also walks you through capturing your own reverb from any real space.
